NOTES OF THE TURF. It i.-; announced from New York that R. F. Carman has accepted the olive branch extended by the management of the Jacksonville Hack, where he had a serious disagreement with II. D. Brown last winter, and that the Carman horses will race at Moncreif rail; the coming winter. It is reported that Clarence EL Mackav is desirous of becoming the owner or Fitz Herbert and that he has made S. C. Hiblreth the magnificent ofler of 80.000 Tor the peerless sou of Etbelberf, Mr. Hiblreth. it is stated, is holding out for 1910.sh5.«miii and it is thought that a transfer of the horse will be made shortly. A T Mead, of London. Eng.. who has shipped manjr .ooruughbreda to South Africa ami India, was n visitor at Saratoga a day or two ago. He says that he will send lortv broodmares in foal to Canada negl month. They have been mated with such sires as riving Fox, Pride, En Garde. Arizona and Collar. Mr. Mead savs that neither India or South Africa is a Kuod hois, breeding country. India is much has hot. while in Africa the young foals are half roasted in the daytime and halt frozen at night. Canada, he thinks, is the onlv suitable bia space left lor the raising of cavalry horses with the thoroughbred cross.
