RACING GOSSIP FROM KENTUCKY. Louisville. Ky.. August 19. — Racing Secretary W. II. Shelley has received a letter from G. D. Wilson, secretary of the Kentucky Association, in which he Informs Mr. Shelley that the prospects for a brilliant fall meeting at Lexington were never so blight and that indications are that Its success will exceed that of any meeting held there in years. Mr. Wilson has just returned from the east and states that representatives from practically every stable BOW racing at Saratoga will be in Kentucky this fall to race at Lexington. Louisville and I.atonia. Arthur N. Rouse, formerly secretary of the Kentucky State Racing Commission, was here today. He seems certain of succeeding Hon. Joseph L. Bhtaoeg in congress. Mr. Rouse still takes a decided interest in racing and says that everywhere be has been he has met people who will visit the tracks this year for the first time in many seasons. A numlier of horsemen here are preparing to do a little side racing at the state fair, which will be held a week iKfore the opening at LexiagtOB. A representative of the state fair was assured today by W. G. Westmoreland, in charge of F. G. Pons siable. that be would race a horse or two. The State Fair Association has increased its purses so that the first horses will receive 00, which was the gross value of last years purses. It was learned at the New Louisville Jockey Club office today that trainer John Powers will come here for the fall meeting at Churchill Downs with Jack Atkin and Sager. Mr. Powers will have CO* trolling charge of all the Sclireiber horses shipped hero and at the conclusion of the local meeting the stable will be rated at various other ixiinls. Mr. Powers, it is stated, will go to Jacksonville again this winter, but Mr. Sclireiber will also have strings at Juarez and Oakland.
