CARMAN COLORS TO FORE NEW YORK TURFMAN SCORES A DOUBLE AT BLUE BONNETS COURSE. Wins with Bonnie Kelso and Arcite — A. H. Higgia-son Sees Sir Wooster Win Strathcona Steeplechase in Splendid Style. Montreal. Que.. September 13. — The colors of Richard F. Carman, of New York, were censaleUOUU at Blue Bonnets today. The Carman stable furnished two of the afternoons winners in Bonnie Kelso, which beat Sager in the third race, and Arcite, winner of the sixth. Both Bonnie Kelso and Arcite led their company from start to finish and the former reduced the track record for a mile and three-sixteenths by almost four seconds. The program offered this afternoon was not up to the high standard of the first two days. The Strathcona Steeplechase Handicap was the feature event and it gave race-goers the opportunity of seeing a really good jumper race. Sir Wooster. conceding lumps of weight to everything in the race, made all of his own pace, fenced in faultless fashion, stalled off stout opinisition at different stages of the running and won with almost ridiculous ease at the finish from Expansionist, which outlasted the tiring Steve Lane. A. Henry Higgiuson. of Boston, was present to see Sir Wooster run and was much elated over his horses victory. Gwyn Tompkins sent Sir Wooster to the post in grand condition despite the fact that it was his first effort in some weeks. Eight of the nine carded went to the post in the Strathcona ami all but QBd finished the course. Gild unseated his rider at the fourth jump and his stable companion, Minto. all but lost his jockey at the sixteenth. The latter was a keen factor up to this point, but after making a bad landing at this fence he tired and dropped out of tin- struggle. Bonnie Kelso simply toyed with Sager in his race. He was under restraint the entire trip and at no stage was the result in doubt. Arcite had to stand a hard drive to make the Carman record a double. He led Judge l.assing by a length and a half at the finish and for a time it looked as if the race might be taken from him. Gay Garner, who had the mount on Judge l.assing. claimed foul against Arcite on the ground of being cut off at the turn out of the backstreteh and also because jockey Archibald struck Judge l.assing across the head with his whip in the stretch. The stewards evidently believed that the last named occurrence was an accident, for tin y permitted the placing to stand as the horses finished. The second race was practically a renewal of the Kings Plate and The Lady of Mercia came right back and duplicated her victory of the opening day. She shouldered 134 poanda and conceded as much as forty-four pounds to some of the others. The fields in a majority of instances were small, but the finishes were close. Four favorites won and the thirty-two layers did not profit much on the days speculation. Business in the ring was brisk ami the attendance was good. Claude Kyle, E. J. Ryan and Al S. Yalentine cut . in at todays drawing of bookmakers. Bob Kennedy and another dropped out. Tom Shaw arrived last night and was busy during the afternoon in the enclosure set apart for speculation. He thought that Arcite might be disqualified by the stewards and laid even money against the Carman horse after the finish. Magazine is reported to have broken down in his race of yesterday and he may ha donated to the Canadian Breeding Bureau. C. C. Smithson. of Washington. D. C. was among the arrivals this morning. A division of the Smith-son stable is lioing campaigned on the half-mile Hacks by Hugh Penny. Seismic, one of tne mainstays of tlie Seagram stable, is out of commission for tlie year probably. Tin patronage which the Montreal Jockey Club is receiving at this meeting is breaking ali records and the meeting will unipicstionably pass into his-tory as tile most brilliant Blue Bonnets has seen. A light rain fell last night, but the going was hardly affected and the track remained in excellent condition for todays racing. Most of the horses that are racing here will lie shipped to Toronto al the close of the Blue Bonnets meeting next Saturday.
