AUSTRALIAS CHAMPION TWOYEAROLD The Marlbyrnong Plate which is the most import ¬ ant race at the Flemington meeting was won on October 29 last by a grandson of Ladas beating a field of thirteen He is a chestnut colt named Phllio and is by Amlrla son of Ladas and Abey ¬ ance out of Phyllis by Trenton her dam Yardley by Sterling out of llippodamla by Pelion Ho appears to have won quite easily and Is recognized as being the best twoyearold In Victoria up to that time in the current season On the first day of the Flemington meeting six winners out of seven were sired by imported horses the seventh being the Derby winner Beverage wulchls by Maltster son of Bill of Portland Barley by Barcaldine out of Louely Styria which won the Oaks on the third day is by the imported St Simon horse Haut Brion and we already know that Com ¬ edy King the winner of the Melbourne Cup is him ¬ self an imported son of Persimmon Maltster re ¬ ferred to above is doing wonderfully well this sea ¬ son and is so far at the head of the list with twenty two winners of thirtythree races value 48775 while Grafton Is second with fortysix winners of sixtyseven races value 29335 The Hampton horse Flavus is third and is evidently going to be a great success as he has only been a few years in the colon
