ANSWERS TO QUERIES. E. P. W., Chicago. The diagram will be published hefore long. Most of the New York tracks are over a mile. Chas. A., Pittsburg, Pa. Eagle Bird has never won at three-quarters. Her fastest record are live and one-half furlongs in 3:00 J at Saratoga and live-eighths in 3:00 at Fort Erie. Sir John Johnson has no record at such distances. His best at three-quarters is 1:12 with 140 pounds up at Belmont Park. A. R., Chicago. 1 The tables necessary apply just as well, exact distances being stated for each race. 2 It is an indelinite distance, but may be arbitrarily placed at an eighth. 3 There is now no official code of betting rules in this country. Formerly there was and. by force of custom and for convenience, they are still adhered to. J. T. M.. St. Louis, Mo. A race is not finished until the judges have made and announced their final plaeiugs. In the race in question the official placing is Angelus second and Cherryola lasf. The backer of Angelus won, unless there was a distinct understanding in advance that the bet was on the order of the finish without regard to the official placing.
