PAM-MUTUELS FOE FLORIDA REPORT COMES FROM TAMPA OF MOVEMENT FOR A RACING COMMISSION. i Provision to Avoid Conflict of Racing: Sates in the J State Talked of Tampa Meeting to Come to a Close Next Wednesday. Tampa. Fin., J larch" S. Only an ordinary crowd as compared with former Ladies day, gathered at the West Tampa track this afternoon. There was wmio good racing, featured by smother contest for amateur riders. Tennessee Hoy served as the prize for the winning rider and "was awarded to Mr. Weaver, who landed Haymarkot the winner, with Alencon and John Garner following. Small fields provided interesting sport and accounted for increased speculation. Secretary .Smith was instructed today to prepare :i three-days program for next week, the period that racing will he prolonged here to afford opportunity for the poorer class of owners to secure getaway money. The opening date for me rcnsacola meeting has not been definitely fixed, hut probably will be March 25. Advices from rcnsacola are to the effect that about thirty horses are at present stabled there awaiting the opening of the racing. There will be a number of departures for Jamestown next week. Including the horses of .1. F. Sweenev. K, W. Moore, J. K. Frayling, II. L. Kites, M. Meyers, W. F. King, 1. N. Hays and II. Me-Coulsky. Hebel Queen was badly cut down during the run-, ning of the first race and will be unfit for racing until next fall. tutorials in the local papers during the past few days, indicate that the incoming legislature will he asked to pass a bill displacing the bookmakers wth the mutuel style of betting. A racing commission will also be asked for. with the further proviso that no race meeting, shall be of more than thirty days duration, and that no two meetings .shall lie conducted at the same time in the state.
