MORE UPSETS AT NORFOLK RANDOLPH STABLE ENTRY MAKES PARTICULARLY POOR SHOWING AT SHORT ODDS. Mcxoaua Wins Race in Canter Ryo Straw Changes Hands After Victory in a Selling Race Track in Improved Condition, Norfolk. V;t.. April -1. Upsets were again Hie order :it the Norfolk course this afternoon. Favorites wou two purses, the consistent Rye Straw aud Hugh Pennys Third Kail being the .successful choices. Rye Straw, which won his race by half a dozen lengths, changed owners after his victory. F. J. Nolan, of the Beverwyck Stable, became Rye Straws new owner when his agent. Willie Martin, hid ,200. This was the only incident out of the ordinary during the afternoon. The sport was uninteresting, a majority of the winners having big margins to spare at the finish. While the going Improved some overnight, the footing remained treacherous in spots, especially so around the first turn aud for a space on the back-stretch. Good time was made in some of the races, however, especially in the opener, in which R. T. Wilsons Mexoana galloped away from her company to win in a canter by half a dozen lengths. The Randolph pair, Besom and Rcciiuet. went to the post at 3 to 10. Besom, the main reliance of the stable, showed speed, but tired badly and Capsize easily beat him out for second money. Several of the horsemen have arranged to ship from here to Iimlico on Tuesday next. August Belmonts string will probably leave on that day. T. Ilatticld and C. A. Ross will send their strings to Lexington from this place and Eugene Moyne will ship direct to -Toronto. Jockey Adams, who rode for the WiUiams-Cloptou confederacy at Jacksonville last winter and the year previous, aud who was injured a few days ago, is reported to be improving. When the X-rays were used, it was found that in place of a broken limb he was suffering from a badly wrenched ankle. Forest Rose, the Virginia turfman who is racing a small but select striug here in charge of J. W. Flynn. was a visitor at the course this afternoon.
