TRAINING GOES ON AT LOUISVILLE. Mud Sill Puts in Fastest Work at Churchill Downs Yesterday Many Horso3 Ready for Racing, Louisville. Ky., April 21. Mud Sill, W. IL Fixers maiden candidate for the Kentucky Derby, did about the only fast work at the Downs today. He worked a half mile in 51 i. running the first eighth in 12, the quarter in 23i and three-eighths in oSr. He could have run faster. Rouud the World, favorite for the big race was out as usual, and cantered a mile and a half at a slow clip. All the other Derby eiigibles were galloped, but none of them went a quarter better than 30. The best mile of the morning was by Pinkola. which good six-year-old pulled up in 1:10. The rail birds figure this Latonla Derby winner is a dangerous horse in all the big handicaps this spring. He never looked better and seemingly can run fast. Other good works included the following: Henry Walbauk Three-quarters in 1:1SJ; first half iu 40s; live-eighths in 1:038. Right good now. Maxims Pride Three-eighths in 40. Is fit. Sureget Three-eighths In 30. Has a good turn of speed this spring. Follio Levy Three-eighths; In 00;, cantering. Never better. Work Lad Half mile In 51; three-eighths iu 30j-. A likely two-year-old. Never better. Sigurd Half mile in 54, cantering. Looks good. Frank Starita arrived witlt his good race mare Queen .Marguerite. She raced In Florida the past winter aud, while only winning one race, finished in the money frequently and looks good now. W. P. Fraser, secrctary-treasnrer of the Ontario Jockey Club and secretary of the Canadian Racing Associations, accompanied by M. Mahoncy, inspected the pari-mutuel machines at the . Dawns- Mr.-Ma-honey holds the same position in Canada tis Eugene Elrod does on the Kentucky circuit, bciug in charge of the betting rings. Mr. Fraser is a firm believer in the parl-mutuel method, and is one of the original advocates of the system in Canada. The machines will, in his opinion, place racing on a firmer basis than ever in the Dominion. The twenty-one machines that he ordered some time ago will be shipped from this city by express next Tuesday or Wednesday. Fair Louise. D. I. Lynchs good filly which is iu T. W. Youngs stable, has been fired, in the knees, but is doing nicely. Alma Boy. Mr. Youngs old campaigner, is again working, but will not race until the meeting opens here. Col. JL .T. Winn will visit Lexington before the spring meeting opens and will also be in attendance there during some days of the meeting, but witli these exceptions he will not again leave Louisville until the curtain is rung down on the spriug meeting of the New Louisville Jockey Club. He remarked yesterday: "It will be a great Derby and many new comers to Kentucky will see it run. In fact, I look for the biggest crowd that ever witnessed an afternoons sport on a Kentucky track. And In spite of the unusual attendance sure to bo on hand this spring the field will be thrown open and the people of Louisville will be invited to see the big race from the enclosure free of admission. It will be a days racing no one can afford to miss, for it will be talked about for many years to come."
