TIGHTENING UP AT LEXINGTON. Trainers Giving Their Charges Faster Work in Preparation for Saturdays Opening. Lexington, Ky., April 25. With the weather clear and the track fast there was much activity here today in preparation for the Kentucky Associations spring meeting. The best gallop of the morning at one mile was that of Joe Morris, with Harry Fleming in the saddle. He worked the first quarter in 24, tlie half in 48s. five-eighths in 1:01s, three-quarters in 1:15J and finished tlie mile in 1:4;;, well in baud, with trainer Baker motioning Fleming to slow up during the last part of it. Alice Baird, from the same stable, worked a mile in 1:44. Richard F. Carmans horses made their, first appearance on the track today after their journey from Belmont Park. Bonnie Kelso, top weight for the Camden Handicap at 127 pounds, galloped a mile in 1:45. He looks fit and ready to race. Cohort moved five-eighths in 1:04 J. while Sir Alvescot and Rogon cantered three-quarters in 1:18. Meridian, the Kentucky Derby candidate, cantered half a mile in 57 and Question Mark a mile in 1:50. Tlie best work-outs by two-year-olds at half a mile were: Goldmine. 4SJ; American Girl. 49; Curtain Call, 50; High Brow. 50; Ruth Jackson. 50; Bonanza and Winning Witch, belonging to C. L. Harrison, in tlie string of W. J. Young, went five-eighths in 1:04. B. A. Trammells good Abe Frank filly, Callsse, arrived today from Texas. Lew Marion was among tlie visitors at tlie track today. He says he may take up a few horses later on, but that for the present lie has none for racing. He says his contract on jockey Carl Ganz does not expire until next December. W. II. Fizer is trying to buy it. Colonel Robert Holloway has returned from Florida. Roger Sullivan, of Cincinnati, reported for duty today as assistant to Secretary W. II. Shelley. Superintendent Ross is preparing quarters for the horses that will come over from Louisville tomorrow and Thursday. Judge D. Gray Falconer, former president of the Kentucky Association, who had a partial stroke of paralysis duriug the winter, was at the course this afternoon. He is on the road to recovery and shows little trace of his allliction. Tom Brown had a big crowd of onlookers during his schooling of the two-year-olds at the barrier this afternoon. The youngsters are taking their education admirably. The Carman horses that are quartered here include Starbottlo. Bonnie Kelso, Sir Alvescot, Arcite, Me- ridiun, Cohort, Canipeon, Rogon, Magazine, .Merry Lad. Sherlock Holmes, Doctor Watson, Inspector Less trade, California Queen, Pasadena Queen and two other two-year-olds. Those that went on to Louisville were The Turk, M. Camliou. Stare. Tlie Follies. Sir Cleges, Horizon. Semprolus, Down Buckler Lady Sapphire and three other two-year-olds. The mares Paradise Queen aud Achieve and the gelding liilliard Ball were sent to Howard Darnabvs farm. The mares are to be mated with Ormoudale.
