ATMAH FIRST IN ONE THOUSAND GUINEAS. London, Eng., April 2S. At Newmarket todav the race for the One Thousand Guineas, for three-vear-old fillies over the Rowley Mile, was won bv Jiunes A. de Rothschilds bay iilly. Atmah, by Galozzo Mrs. Kendal, with J. B. Joels hay filly. Radiance, by Snndridge Queen Elizabeth, second and Major Eustace Loders brown lillj. Knockfeerna. third. Sixteen fillies ran, of which only one was a American candidate, August Belmonts Sandwich. Atmah started in seven races last voar without winning, but ran well notwithstanding her last race being her best and one of real merit. This was In the Dewhurst Plate at seven-eighths of a mile at the Newmarket Houghton meeting. King William and Phrjxiiis making a dead heat for first place with Atmah third only a head awaj. Lycaon, Prince Palatine, Prince San and Bridge of Allan running uu-plaeed. She was unplaced in the Prince of Wales Nursery Handicap at Doncaster; unplaced in the I.rookside Plate at Brighton, second to Courage in the Wigston Maiden Plate at Leicester: third to Sunder and Sunshine in the Fortj--eighth New Biennial Stakes at Ascot and unplaced in the Acorn Stakes at Epsom and the Ashlev Plate at the Newmarket Craven meeting. This record is hardly one to presage the winner of such a race as the One Thousand, but is thoroughly illustrative of the uu-ccrtaiifty attending the racing of fillies early in the year. On this side of the water, disappointment will be felt because the Hamburg Lady Frlvoles lilly could not be brought to the post lit and well
