VIOLENT TEMPERS OF FAMOUS HORSES. Famous race horses, like famous people, are often eccentric in their behavior, and there have been many eases of celebrated animals that have turuod savage and had to be shot through trying to eat their jockeys. Otto Madden, the famous jockey, who only a few seasons ago won the Derby on the 100 to 1 chance. Jeddah, was violently atlacked by a horse at the Brightest races. He was riding Centre flown to the post lor the Worthing Plata when a horse called Marigold IV. overtook him. dragged him out of the saddle by the shoulder, ami. seizing him by the throat, shook him as a terrier shakes a rat. Madden returned to the padijoek bleeding from a wound on the throat which had to have several stitches put into it. and it was some time before he was able to ride again. Sweet Sounds, in spile of his name, was an Irreclaimable savage.
