NEW TRACK IN THE EAST H. D. BROWN BUILDING MODERN COURSE BETWEEN WASHINGTON AND BALTIMORE. Inaugural Meeting to Be Held Over It Next Fall, Preliminary to Meeting of 100 Days or More at Havana — Particulars of Latter Project. Waafciagtoa, I. C. May 20. — An announcement which will come as a surprise is lhat Maryland is lo have a new up-to-date mile track, which will be ready for racins over next fall. The plant is to be situated at Laurel, which is on the main line of the Donu-vHania Uailroad between Daltimore and Washington. D. C. fourteen miles from WsnftV-bagtoa and about twenty five miles from Baltimore. The regular 1 rains of the Pennsylvania all pass the place and service of twenty minutes from Washington and thirty minutes from Baltimore has already been guaranteed. The plant will be owned by a numlier of well-known Daltimore and Washington business men. -o there will be a local interest in it. H. D. Drown, who successfully managed the meeting at Jacksonville last winter, lias been engaged as general manager and superintendent of eonstrtietion. The cost of the plant will be aliout SmOO.OOO, and work his already commenced on if. Mr. Drown is now at Laare] looking after the construction of the track proper, while the material for the buildings will be shipped there at once. Stabling room will be provided for 500 horses and flic management of the new association will guarantee that no purse will be less than hB" K. and ranging from that amount to . with a numtier of handi eaSMJ carrying values of to ,000. It is th» idea of the management of the new association to race thirty days, opening October 2. The construe Hon of the track is well under way and it will be ready long before the opening date. Track and stand are to be patterned after the Monerief Dark plant at Jacksonville. The Jockey Club of New York. within whose jur-i-dietiou the track will be located, will sanction, the meet ing ami gran-t the dates required, accord-ins to its promoters, who claim to have already received assurance to that effect. The Laare] track will be closely affiliated in man agemeat with the track at Havana, Cuba, for which II. D. Drown ami his associates have secured a i -onci— sjon sad which is to be built on the plans! of the immense racing plant at Buenos Ayres at a cost of about 00,000. II. D. Brown will also have the, management of Ibis plant. He will go to Havana, when he has completed the building of the new track at Iiurel and will superintend the building of the Cuban plant. The plans are already drawn and work will be commenced early in the summer. A pretentions clubhouse will be built in connection with ihe Havana track and the added money will surpass lhat of any winter meeting that has ever been held. There will be no purse of less value than 1500. while the stakes will range from ,000 to 0,000 in value. The topliner attractions will be a Derby to be known as the Havana Derbv. which will be worth S10.00O. :n, l another 0.M0 stake to be known as the Cuba Special. It is figured that these will furnish sufficient attraction, with the other stakes, to draw the more important American stables to Cuba for winter racing. fhe Havana meeting will open on Thanksgiving Day and continue for 100 days or nine. In sneaking of the Florida situation. Mr. Drown stated that he would make no attempt to test the constitutionality of the anli belling law recently passed by the Legislatsre and approved by Governor Gilchris. but thai if the time ever comes when he people of Florida declare for the restoration of racing that he will be willing to lend his aid to its re -establishment.
