WORTH AND HIS ANTECEDENTS. Lexington. Ky.. May 20. — Worth, the two year-old brown son of Knight of the Thistle and Miss Hanover, which was purchased from Gallaher Bros, of this city at Imisville last Tuesdav by Frank N. Taylor, trainer and agent for II. V. Hallenbeck. a wealthy New York paper manufacturer, for the re|H,rted price of 0,000. was" bred by It. II. Mc-c liter Potter, master of the Bequest Stud, An-dover, N. J., but he was foaled in the establishment of Jolm H. Morris on a portion of the old Woodburn Kami, near Sprins Station. Ky.. where for several years Mr. Potter kept a number of his mans. Worth was foabd March 1.".. 1909, and was the mo-t robust of all the colts of that year at Woodburn. He was brought to Lexington during the race meeting of the Keiituekv Association last September and was sold in the Kentucky Sales Companys auction of thoroughbreds to Charles T. Wortbtngton of Ikinville for S4SS. Mr. Worthingtoa turned him over to Gallaher Bros, to be broken and trained and by the time the brothers were ready to ship their stable to Jacksonville for the winter meeting be bad demonstrated that he possessed more than ordinary merit. His nixt appearance was at Churchill Downs. Louisville. last Saturday when he turned the tables on Cash on Dellveiy in good fashion, defeating him six lengths .vcr a fast track and running the four and one half furlongs in .-.::. within one-flrtb of a second of the track record, with 118 pounds up. Worth is a brother to two useful racers. Brown Thistle and Great Jubilee. His sire, the Knsli-h stallion Knisht of the Thistle, is a son of Rosehery, the Uxt horse to win in the sin. e:,r the Cam hridgeahire and Oesa re witch Handicaps, and The Empress Maude. Ihe heat of hi- set. a.-ide from Worth, are McCarter, Jake Sin. lei-; and Jacqitin. M;-- Hanover, the dam of Worth, is a daughter of Hanover, and was a good race mare. She won her first start, running the straight five -eight lis over the Eclipse course at Morris Park in 58, and behind her in that race was 1 ink Domino, the dam of Sweep, anil Curiosity, the dam of Novelty. Miss Dawn. Dawn of Day ami Lottie Moon, respectively the second, third and fourth dams of Worth, were all winners. Mis- Dawn was the dam of the good winners Simon D. and Early, it is a family of bardy, sturdy horses, of which Ca-h Day, a brother to Misa Dawn, is probably the star.
