GOVERNOR GRAYS TRAINER CONFIDENT. Cincinnati. .. June S. — Capt. .7. T. Williams, on Striving at f at— 1| recently with Governor Gray, tapiesaed he utmost confidence that his charge would will the Latonta Derby and said that he would welcome the shipment of Meridian here from Mini trial to contest the race with the son of Garry Herrmann and Salaam, lie declared that "no matter what has been said aliout the running of the Kentucky Derby, no one who saw the race can say that Governor Gray got a good ride. Bad racing luck and worse Judgment cost him the race, lie is a sure wiener in this Derby and dont let anyone tell you anything else." he said to his interviewer. With Meridian a doubtful starter. Governor Gray has become the favorite for the Derby. It is thought lure hat Captain Williams has made a wise move in bringing the gelding to Latonia and gelling him accustomed to running over the Kenton County track. 1 1 has a far different surface from thai of Churchill Howns. which did not especially suit Governor Gray. There were arrivals at the Latonia track in addition to Captain Williams string. T. I.. Iearce came with four from Lexington, P. II. Jones and B. Colin II brought three from Pimlico and F. M. Newman, coming from Louisville, brought three. Two local owners, F. Bchrickei and F. C. Hasenfield, each have live horses in training at the track. The arrival of horses from Louisville will bo a daily story next week, as it will lake some days and a good many ears to move l. :0n horses here. Genera] Manager flarhaac later will be at the Latonia track on Sunday to see what will lx- left to do during the last few days before the meeting. The clubhouse is now being refitted and new furniture i-being installed. The big front porch has been extended and will accommodate a great many more than formerly. There will be plenty of mutuel machines in operation on Derby day. Last year fifteen machines were available and the management could not pi • vide devices for the smaller denomination. This year then- are twenty one new machines, l esides the old ones.
