POOR DAY FOR FAVORITES FIRST CHOICES FAIL TO CUT MUCH FIGURE IN LATONIA RESULTS. Any Port Returns to Winning Form with Startling Suddenness — Jockey Mountain Distinguishes Himself by Piloting Trio of Winners. Cincinnati. .. June 15. — Ideal racing .weather prevailed this afternoon and close finishes marked the ■port at Latonia. which was witnessed by anotln * large crowd. Those who expected the track to l e in bad condition were disappointed, for instead of being heavy as a result of yesterdays rain, it was good at race time and improved as the afternoon wore on. Jockey .Mountains success in the saddle was a feature. This old timer scored with three of his mounts. His good work began in the second lace, when he brought home Sureget in a hard diive with High Range. Then he followed with a victory "ii Tourist and in the succeeding race on Any Port. Dm tatters win furnished the main surprise of the afternoon, as be displayed startling improvement over recent essays and led home a smart lot of racers. Van Meter for the alleged part he played in having John Mark bin banished from Hie turf, bid Tourist tip to si.iiOo. an advance of 00 over his entered price, and became his new owner. In addition to the numerous happenings in the second race, Romp was claimed from J. B. Respess by E. F. Miller, who was represented in the race by Topland. The claiming price was 60. The last two races enabled J. C. Milam to score a double, witli Merrick and Dick Baker. The former, though running in much-improved form, had to be hard driven to outstay Jacobite, an extreme outsider. Rocky OBrien, the favorite, was third. Hick Baker was lucky to save much ground entering the stretch, which enabled him to get up to take the measure of the lightly regarded Waltz in the closing strides. First Peep, the favorite, finished far back. Mcst of the first choices were beaten during the afternoon, to the cost of the big operators. Nictate will in future be barred from starting here because of his bad acting. Plan Ryan has been sold to I. Leyde and will be shipped to Mexico. Mr. Leyde is in quest of about forty horses that he wants to take to Mexico. John W. Schorr will sell Wander. Bayerin. Lady Palms. Tennessee and Scrimmage by auction on Saturday next in the Latonia paddock. The Schorr string at present consists of twenty-eight racers. Harry F.
