EXTRAORDINARY HAPPENINGS AT HAMILTON. Dalmain Is Disqualified and Ruling Is Issued Barring Public Betting on Amateur Races in Future. Hamilton. Ont., June 23. — One of the best fields of two year-olds of Hie season went to the post in the Grant Spring Brewery Stakes, the feature race of the program offered by the Hamilton Jockey Club this afternoon. There were ten starters and I he held was made up of the stars of the younger division In the stables of all the big owners racing here. The winner turned up in the Canadian-owned Rose Lawrence, which made all of her own pace and got home a nose in advance of Vestibule. The latter was an added starter ami ran coupled with Tinea ml as the Belmont • entry. Vestibule broke well, only to meet with early interference, and Cold-stein was forced to pull up. He closed a big gap in the stretch and at the finish was in Close quarters on the inside. On his showing today Vestibule is looktd upon as a high-class coll. Much excitement was crowded into the afternoons sport, some of the finishes being close enough to leave the winner in doubt until the Official placing was displayed. Caper Sauce, winner of the race for Canadian foaled horses, was bid up after his victory and sold to Ceorge M. Hendrie. Dalmain. winner of the seventh race, was disqualified for swerving against Ochre Court in the stretch, and a recommendation came from the stew aids after the running of the gentlemens race, in which the executive committee of the club concurred, io the effect that in future public betting will be barred in races of this kind. Waterbridge fell at the first jump and broke his neck. Simpson, who rode him, suffered a broken collarbone. Fagle Bird, winner .of the sixth race, a dash of five and a half furlongs, was forced to equal the track record to beat Selwik and Monlcalin. Caper Sauce made a show of his companions in the opening dash. This good racer has been slip I ing into selling races for the past two years an 1 beating some good horses. The following is a copy of Ihe ruling made by the stewards regarding races in which gentlemen riders will be seen in tic saddle. It came as a result of tiflk on the part of disgruntled bettors: "Albert Simons, the trainer of Wonder Worker, bet 89 on the horse, and Mr. Kilgore. who rode, gave Mi. Simons *JO Io bet on Wonder Worker for him. As incompetent riders in gentlemen races are apt to CISSte dissatisfaction, the executive committee, on recommendation from the stewards, have decided that in future no public letting will be allowed on events of this kind." The program for the closing day is made up of nine races and the club announces that the horses will be culled to the post for the opening race at 2:30. The executive committee of the club, at the lequest of Secretary Loudon, has added 00 more to the National Handicap, which means that instead of ,800 there will be ,000 in added money. Jawbone ran coupled with Froglegs in the irant Spring Brewery Stakes this afternoon. John W. Schorr having purchased the colt from Barney Schrei-ber. The latter retained a half interest in todays slakes. Jockey Shilling was fined 00 by the stewards In- rough riding on Dalmain. * Harry Cidditigs has decided to ship his stable from here to Windsor. A match race which was made by S. C. Hildrelh and Albert Simons for ,000 a side, at six furlongs, between Lahore and Zeus, has been declared off. Permission was sought of the stewards to run the match tomorrow, but was denied. Messrs. Hiidreth and Simons were willing to run it without batting of any kind, but it was deemed advisable not to encourage races of this kind.
