LATONIA TRACK CONDITIONS CHANGE. Downpour of Rain Precedes Afternoons Racing and Card Is Riddled as Consequence. Cincinnati, o.. July 0. — Changed track conditions were produced by heavy rains which began at Latonia just before the opening dash and accounted for the withdrawal of many horses from the various racea. The handicap suffered especially. Bettie Sue, Melisande. Star ORyan and Fairy Story declining the issue. With the abov named out. Al Mailer loomed as the logical winner, track conditio.is being exactly to his liking. The greatest contention was expected from Prince Gal, but he ran dis.tp pointingly and far below his best form, ultimately bringing up in the rear. Elfin Bean accounted for second place and Cherryola was third. The latter ran a goad race considering it was her first effort since a rest following the Lexington meeting. With Mad Sill and Sebago excused from starting in the fifth race, only John Reardon, Melton Street and WO 1 Sandals were left to go. All the betting centered on the first named pah and they furnished the chief cont-uth n. John Reardou winning. During the early stages Wool Sandals gave the backers of the choices some concern by threatening to make a run : way race if it. and he might have succeeded but Eat falling lame when a furlong from the finish. Handzarctta contributed to the woes of the specula tors during the afternoon by a failure in the third race. She led until the last furlong, then weak SBCd badly, enabling Abrasion. Flying Footsteps and Emily Lee to take the spoils in the order named. The opener went to Star Rose after a brief stretch struggle with Inciter and Judge Sale. In the second. Imprudent made a show of her opposition and won in a canter from Lady Orimar. The closing race gave Moekler ojqiortuiiity to lead for the entire trip, with Silver Knight second in advance of Che-ni.iipo. Stone Street ran poorly in this race and seems to have developed an inability to race as well iu soft going as earlier in his career. Jockey McCahey had to cancel his engagements for the afternoon after dismounting from Chartier iu the opening race on account of an injury to his leg. Walter O. Parmer was among todays visitors. He came to confer with horsemen relative to shipping to Windsor. Most of the more important stables here will be sent to the Canadian track at the close of tin- meeting. Among those who have signified their intentions of going are Clay Bros., J. C. Milam. J. T. Ireland, F. J. Pons, W. E. Lewis. T. II. Ryan. George Odom, J. B. Respess, J. N. Camden and W. O. Joplin. J. N. Camdens good colt. Praetorian. puHed up in bad condition this morning and probably will not be trained again this season. Jockey Eddie Tapliu will not ride tomorrow on account of the pain he is suffering as a result of a stray ballet having struck him in the face. The bullet was fired from ambush while Taplin was swimming in the Latonia lake. It cut cleanly through the upper lip, knocked several of his teeth out and remained in his mouth. Next Saturday Gallaher Brothers will ship all their horses to Lexington, where they will be rested until fall racing begins on the Kentucky tracks. T. C. McDowells horses will at the conclusion of this meeting be shipped to Lexington to be rested. Henry McDaniel will take all the horses he has in charge to Louisville at the close of the racing here an 1 rest them until fall. Joseph L. Rhiuock was among todays arrivals. R. I". Carman, who has been negotiating for the services of Jockey Koerner. was notified today that the rider would be at his disposal during the Windsor meeting.
