LlILDRETirS UNLUCKY DAY THE GREAT FITZ HERBERT MEETS WITH A MISHAP AFTER WINNING RACE. Mad River Is Claimed From Mr. Hildreth After Being Disqualified for a Foul and Dinna Kens Defeat Is Costly to Leading Turfman, Buffalo. PL Y.. July 7.— S. C. Hildreths great racer, Fitz Herbert, came out of his victorious race at Fort Erie today an exceedingly lame horse. Fits Herbert was a starter in the feature event of the program offered by the Niagara Racing Association, a six -furlongs handicap, in which he carried 140 pounds. He was coupled with Colonel Ashmeade as the S. C. Hildreth entry, which ruled a 1 to 5 avorite. Fitz Herbert led throughout and won i sally, but in [lulling ap be stepped on a stone and bruised his foot. He walked out of his lameness some, but it probably will be a few weeks before he again faces the starter. It was an unlucky-day for Hildreth all around. Mad River, his entry in the two year-old race, had been accorded strong stable support, but was beaten by a 40 to 1 shot. Monkey. In the stretch jockey Shilling bore over to the inside with his mount and interfered with Terrible Roy. the latter being forced to pull up sharply. The judges promptly disqualified Mad River for fouling and then fined Shilling 00 for rough riding. J. W. Hedrick. who is gathering together a stable to campaign in Cuba next wiuter. then claimed Mad River, paying ,100 for the Ethelbert colt. Last spring at Pimlico Mad River was thought to be the best youngster in the Hildreth stable. He js yet a maiden, albougli a grand looker. Hildreth lost another good wager when Dinna Ken was beaten in the fifth race. Dinna Ken showed good speed in the race, hut was unable to stand off Aspirins winning rush in the homestretch. Several outsiders won during the afternoon. White Caps, Monkey, Stare and Shelby al! being at liberal odds. Shelbys victory was in a measure due to the POST start that Anna L. Daley received. The latter was as good as left. The horses of Joseph E. Seagram, Albert Simons and the Valley Farm Stable will be shipped to Windsor tomorrow. Amos Turin y la progresssaaj favorably after his operation of a few days ago. He has decided not to -end his stable to Windsor, however, and his horses will remain here for the next meeting. A carload of horses will be shipped to Delorimier Park. Montreal, tomorrow. Included in the lot will he tic horses owned by J. C. Rous. Jr.. Tommy Burns. E. Moore and Mode Nicoll. William Oliver will also send two from bis stable. Milpitas. recently purchased by George McSweeney from William Walker, pulled up lame after being sent Died and has been turned out until fall. The special race proposed by the Niagara Racing Association for tomorrow did not fill. Olambala was tbe only horse that was entered. Stalls for the Beverwyck Stable horses, which were shipped from Norfolk to Saratoga last spring, have been engaged for the second meeting at Fort Brie. The horses will be shipped here shortly. Henderson aV Hogan and W. II. Fizer are among the owners racing at I.atonia who will ship to Fort Erie at the conclusion of the Kentucky meeting. The horses Bmperor William and Smirk arrived here today to finish out the Canadian season. The former came from Baltimore, while Smirk came from GraveaaaML
