REAL RACING AT CHICAGO ONCE MORE. Meeting of Thirteen Racing Days Announced to Begin at Hawthoiae Saturday. July 15. The intention to conduct racing at Hawthorne tomorrow and Monday has been abandoned in favor of a broader and more effective plan of operations. Thomas Carey, principal owner of Hawthorne and a man of weight and influence in the affairs of Chicago, has decided to give a regular meeting of thirteen racing days at that track. It will begin Saturday. July 15 and terminate Saturday. July 29. Since racing closes at I.atonia July 15, tbe big array of owners there will at once be furnished welcome employment for their horses at the big city that was formerly the pivot of all that was good and important in racing in the west. Tbe days intervening will be actively devoted to preparing adequate quarters for the horses and otherwise putting the track and its appurtenances into condl tion to properly entertain its patrons. It is announced that ihe racing program for the first day Will be one of six purse races, one of which will be a handicap of io at a mile and a sixteenth. The others will probably be 50 each. Undoubtedly values will be increased if patronage justifies it. Thi;; meeting will be of prime importance to western owners and should be vigorously supported by them. It will demonstrate conclusively whether or not racing as a sport can be conducted profitably a: Chicago without public betting. It will be under the best available auspices and is an experiment replete with interest, to say nothing of its hopeful aspect tending to the local re-establishment of racing with details modified to meet the requirements of present conditions. A part of the obligations incurred by the Letter Carriers Association to owners and others through their two-days meeting of July 3 and 4. have not been met as yet, but it is said that when returns from all of their committees are in. matters will be adjusted satisfactorily to all concerned.
