TORONTO MEETING OPENS FALL RACING AT WOODBINE ATTRACTS THH USUAL BRILLIANT GATHERING. Plato Glass Wins the Toronto Autumn Cup in Impressive Fashion and The Welkin Takes the Steeplechase Stake, Toronto, Ont., September 23. A splendid gathering marked a glorious opening of the Ontario Jockey Clubs fall meeting at AVoodbine this afternoon. The club provided an excellent program of seven races, in which well balanced fields went to the post. Stirring contests resulted, several of the winner being first home by the smallest of marglnB. The Toronto Cup, the feature race of the card, proved rather easy for Plate Glass, which beat Star Charter a length after making most of the pace. Plate Glass was ridden by the unfashionable jockey Peak, carried 122 pounds, and ran the mile and a quarter in 2:04. The pace was fast from tht start, the mile being run in 1:381. Sir John Johnson quit badly after running prominently to the stretch turn. The Welkin won the Woodbine Autumn Steeplechase.
