POOR DAT FOR FAVORITES ALL OF THE PUBLIC CHOICES GO DOWN TO DEFEAT AT LAUREL. Baring: Conditions Constantly Improving at the New Course and Attendance Is Good Froglegs Beats Moisant in Blue Point Selling Stakes, J . Baltimore, Md.. October 4. Further improvement in racing conditions attracted a large crowd to Laurel this afternoon. The track was decidedly letter and faster time was recorded than on previous days. The public wore unsuccessful in their efforts to land on the right ones aud the days results showed six beaten favorites. The feature race, the Blue Point Selling Stakes, for two-year-olds, furnished a good contest, with the winner turning up in Froglegs, from the Schorr stable. Moisant was well supported and flattered her backers by dashing to the front when the start came and opening a big lead. She tired liadly in the stretch and reieatedly .stumbled during the last sixteenth. The sturdy going Froglegs linished with great courage and after a mild drive shook off Moisant to win going away. The best finish of the afternoon came with the l unuing of the first race, which was for two-year olds. Auto Maid proved best, beating the favorite. Sadie Shapiro, by a head in a driving finish. My Gal, winner of the sixth race, was run up af ter her victory. M. C. Prichard, former owner of the filly, advanced her 00 over her entered price of 1,000, but J. W. Iledrick protected and bought her in. Liberal odds were laid against the winners, and those fortunate to pick the right ones were well rewarded. William Walker, who took two purses yesterday with Sir Edward and Servieence, offered those two horses for sale at Toronto, together with Scarlet Pimpernel, for ,000, but could not finda buyer. llllam Oliver, who is training for Dr. J. S. Tyreu, of Washington, has secured second call on jockey Schuttiiiger for the Pinilico meeting. Dr. llyrce has received an. offer for his McGce-Radlance Hearting filly from a prominent owner in England. fr. Tyrec refused the proffer and will enter the filly Hor English stakes. This youngster, together with rluilf a dozen other yearlings purchased in Lexington last fall, will be shipped to Beuning next month" to be broken. Mr. Oliver will winter at Benniug. There were many new faces among the horsemen today. James Fitzsinimons, .1. Simon Ilealy and Thco. Coles were among those who were here for the first tlnie. James Hewitt will shortly take up the four-year-old Pulka, which has been turned out sinee last spring on a farm near Baltimore and train him for winter racing. Pulka was fired and is said to be going soundly. Pocotaligo is another that Mr. Hewitt will train for winter racing. Woodford Clay, with Ocean Bound and Buckhoni, M. C. Prichard with Spellbound and others, and James Robertson arrived at Laurel this morning. "They came from Canada. J. Simon Ilealy has again taken up Heatherbroom and will train her for racing at Piinlico and La-lonia. Ileatherbrooni broke down in Kentucky last summer while working for a stake race, but she is apparently sound again. This is a filly that Captain Cassatt purchased from James It. Keene. Fred W. Gerhardy today announced the conditions and dates for stakes during the Jamestown meeting this fall: Monticello Handicap, ,500 added, for all ages, one mile, will lie run November IS; Exchange Handicap. ,000 added, for three-year-olds and upward, one mile and a. sixteenth, will be run November 14; Thanksgiving Selling Stakes, ,000 added, for three-year-olds and upward, one mile, is carded for Novemlier .!0. The Lynhaven Hotel Handicap. 00 added, for two-year-olds, six furlongs, and the Merchants Selling Stakes, added, for all ages, at six and one-half furlongs, are the other stakes. Mr. Gerhardy leaves tomorrow for Richmond where he will act as secretary during a six-days meeting there.
