LIBERAL RESPONSE IN JAMESTOWN STAKES. .Norfolk, Va., October 21. Horsemen have responded liberally to the Jamestown Jockey Clubs bid for entries for the Moiiticollo Hotel, Lynnliaven and Exchange Handicaps and the Thanksgiving and Merchants Selling Stakes. These stakes eloseil last week and they will bo run during the twenty-live days meeting which begins here November 2. The Monticollo Hotel Handicap, a race of one mile for Bll ages, will be the best of the meeting. It will pay the winner . in the neighborhood of ,500. The Lynnliaven and Exchange are for two and three-year-olds and are respectively worth ,000 each. The Thanksgiving Stakes is a race of one mile and nn eighth, for three-year-olds and over, and the Merchants a dash of six and a half furlongs for nil ages. In eaeh instance the value will be ,000. Sticker and Spohn. Tho Norfolk track is being put in racing condition by George Miller, who has been busy here for two weeks. Already the going is good. Ho promises that the track record of 1:39, for one mile, held jointly by Ragmau and Hoffman, will be broken next month. Mr. Miller is making the steeplechase course over in preparation for the best chasing over seen in this part of Virginia.
