CASTLETON-BRED HORSES SCORE AT LAUREL. Grasmere Takes Anno Arundel Selling: Stakes and d Hilarious Wins for James R. Keene. Laurel. Md., October 25. James R. Keeues good d racer, Hilarious, redeemed himself at Laurel this s afternoon by winning the fifth race in runaway fashion from a band of fair platers. He was ridden n by Eddie Dugan, went to the front with a rush rounding the turn into the backstretch and, showing 5 a great flight of speed, drew away into a command-lug I- lead, which he rctaiued without much effort to 0 the finish where he led Aspirin a couple of lengths. Todays program was made up of seven races with ; the Anne Arundel Selling Stakes as the feature. Grasmere. a former stiiblematc of Hilarious, proved rt easily best of the big field that went to the post in n this stake and won with plenty in hand. E. Dugan n also had the mount on Grasmere and at no time e during the final thre furlongs was the result in u doubt. Grasmere only recently passed Into the e hands ot J. W. Burttschcll. He was entered in n todays race to be sold for 00 and after his s victory he was promptly boosted to ,500 by W. T. 1. Anderson, who secured him at that figure. Edda, ; which ran coupled with John Reardon as the J. W. . Schorr entry, showed a good performance, closing a a big gap to finish a good second. Another boost came after Blackford won the seventh . race. C. C. Smlthson, who ran up Ben Loyal, another Watkins horse, after bis victorv vesterday, was responsible for the runup. He bid Blackford up i from 1911.sh00 to ,000 and owner Watkins retained il the horse with the customary advance of . Schuttinger and E. Dugan promise to Ik; the leading riders at Laurel during the reniaiuder of the p meeting. Each piloted two winners this afternoon. . The former had the mounts on Wildweed and Miss s Joe. Wildweed. which was sold out of the Belmont t stable on Monday, was running for tbc first time in 11 the colors of her new owner, C. L. Mack, and she e showed a smart performance. The track was in fairly good condition and by tomorrow - the going should be fast. H. C. Hallenbeck is expected here from Latonia with the next few days. Stinger, Worth and 1 Adams Express are entered In some ot the stakes to be ran during the closing days of the meeting at J 1 Laurel. They have also been entered In the stakes at Norfolk and probably will he shipped there at 1 the conclusion of the racing here Fred W. Gerliardy, who will serve as racing secretary and one of the stewards during the coming ; meeting of the Jamestown Jockey Club, left for r Norfolk tonight to shape up things for the opening. An average of fifty entries have- been made to the ; four stakes and about 500 horses are to take part in the meeting.
