Stinger was the only favorite to score at Latonia tills afternoon.- Stinger won the mile and a sixteenth handicap from Governor Gray and Leamence. The Hallenbeck colt ran a great race. He forced a fast and steady pace for the entire distance and decisively outstayed Governor Gray in the stretch sprint. The only other race oh the card with any pretension to class on the part of the contestants was the closing dash, in which Love-Not, Granite, Raleigh P. D. and Golden Egg were among those named to go. The betting on Granite and Love Not combined totalled nearly twice the sum wagered on all the others, but backers of this pair wore doomed to disappointment, for the finish found Golden Egg in the van with Raleigh P. D. leading Love-Not for second money. Granite ran prominently for the first three furlongs, and suddenly retired in the stretch as if be had met with a mishap. Cheer Up graduated from the maiden class, when he boat eleven others in the opener. Sir Denrah was intended as a "good thing" in the race, but be showed nothing.
