WELL-BACKED HORSES WIN AT MARLBORO. Washington, D. C, November 3. As tho weather had moderated to a- considerable extent, there was a big increase in the attendance at Marlboro this afternoon and speculation , was lively on the six races that furnished the afternoons entertainment. While only one favorite won, every purse went to a well-backed horse. One of the best supported horses of the day, Fanchetto, whose odds were cut from 5 to 1 to 11 to Si, led all the way and won by five lengths, although her rider took no chances and rode her out. at the fiuish. The Columbia Steeplechase was the days lnain event and this went to The King, which passed the pacemaker, .Tuveronco, after the last jump had been cleared, but he had to be driven out at the end to stall off the rush of Gun Cotton. There was an accident during the ruuniug of the last event. Hatteras, the favorite, was caught in a jam entering the backstretch and his rider, Hop-kius, received a nastv fall. He was knocked out for a considerable length of time, but finally regained consciousness and was able to walk about. W. C. Daly was given notice today that his presence at Marlboro was not desired and in future he will not be admitted to the grounds. This is in lino with action at Laurel arid Pimlico. There is a chance that the meeting here may be extended five or ten days beyond tho original schedule. Otlicial announcement oh the matter probably will be made tomorrow.
