WILL WITHDRAW PETITION NEW MOVE BY ATTORNEY-GENERAL OF SOUTH CAROLINA IN COLUMBIA CASE. : i Announces That He Will Ask Supreme Court to Dismiss Suit Recently Begun Rumor That Meeting May Be Curtailed. Columbia, S. C. December 10. Another move in the local racing situation was reported today when Attf r.Hy-Ueneral Lyons announced that he would rc-qu -st the Supreme Court to dissolve his petition for a 1 injunction against the race track on the allegation that it is a nuisance. The court had lixed the hearing in the case for January 4 and will no doubt grant the attorney-generals request. It is hinted that another injunction on the same grounds may be stinjht next week. Continuous rain during the night and threatening weather this afternoon were responsible for bad track conditions and a big decrease in the attendance. Mud runners were in their element and the talent Iliads few mistakes in their selections, with the result that layers received another drubbing. The racing was of ordinary calibre and decidedly routine. Ilibernica, in the opener, was the only hors. that scored at good odds. Silas Grump. Joe Rose, llahlcman, Western Belle and Eagle Bird, the other winners, were backed extensively and ruled as choices. The best contest came with the running of the fifth race, when Western Belle, reported to have been extensively backed throughout the country, got up to win in the last few strides over Sea Swell. The latter was best, but incompetent handling accounted for his failure. Silas Gruinp was another that the smart set landed on heavily. lie won from Queen Bee, under a hustling ride. Joe Hose was backed to the exclusion of the others in the third race, and he won as his rider pleased. Ilahleman finally managed to break into the winning ranks when he beat Semiquaver in the fourth and Eagle Bird spread-eagled her opposition in the closing dash. Jockey Boy Estep, the lad that It. L. Bites of Baltimore developed, left here for El Paso last night. fEstcp was offered a contract by E. KaulTman and E. L. Jones to ride for them at Juarez during the winter months. J. L. Holland has decided not to race any of his yearlings at Charleston this winter. Several of the youngsters had shown well in trials and their owuei deemed it best to reserve them for summer racing. They are by the imported stallions John F. and Martinet and will be allowed to run out all winter on the Holland ranch in Oklahoma. Quite a number of turf followers loft for the north tonight to siK-nd the holidays with their families. Humors that the meeting here might come to a premature close were responsible for a number of the departures. So far the meeting has not been a financial success. The local people have not been generous with their support, and the management l as been forced to depend entirely on outside patronage. A big delegation of owners and horse followers will go to Charleston tomorrow to look over the situation there, and will return on Monday. It is 12i miles from here to Charleston. Jockeys C. Turner and Hopkins carried off the riding honors with a pair of victories each. As a result of crossing over sharply on Love Watches in the closing dash, jockey Forsyth is slated for an interview with the judges and probably will draw a suspension.
