NOTES OF THE TURF. J. D. Adkins, trainer for R. J. Mackenzie, has arrived at Juarez. The Mackenzie horses are out of training this winter. Lord Denman and Sir John Fuller arc sportsmen at heart. Most of our Governors have claimed "interest in sport," but the race horse did not appeal to them in the same way that it does to the present Governor-General and the State Governor. Melbourne Argus. The Fort Garry Turf Club will give a four-days meeting at Winnipeg next summer. The dates selected are Friday and Saturday, June 2S and 29, and Monday and Tuesday, July 1 and 2. The following officers have been elected President, A. M. McLaren: vice-president, C. 0. Kelly: secretary-treasurer. II. J. Hollingshead; directors, E. J. Rochon, II. B. nar-rison, P. Payne. A bill to replace bookmaking on the race course of New South Wales by the totalizator has been referred to a committee of the Legislature, and The Australasian says the reference means that the last has been heard of it. In the other Australasian States and New Zealand, they will have nothing but the machine, but New South Wales and Victoria stick to the bookmaker. Many men of education and high social position are engaged in the business of training race horses in England, and the most successful trainer of the year is Hon. George Lambton, a brother of the Earl of Durham. He has charge of the horses owned by Lord Derby, as well as several belonging to Sir Edgar Vincent, Lord Wolverston aud Mr. Arthur James, and this season he sent to the post twenty-two winners of forty-eight races, whose value was 23S,S43. Thats a record not equalled by many men in tho same calling. Toronto Globe.
