B00KMAKING SUGGESTED FOR GERMANY. The supplanting of the pari nmtuel system of bit ting by 1 km;. king is being talked of in Germany. German bookmakers are in communication in Berlin with the police and legal authorities with the ultimate view of obtaining some modification of the existing betting restrictions. There has been con siderable clandestine betttag in Germany of late. It is hoped that an arrangement will be made for bob* system of licensing a limited number of bookmakers *n an enclosure on each race course An entrance fee would be charged those who had a right to enter sack enclosures, and the b,„,ks regis tering th, wagers might lie issued on the Belgian system, the bookmaker paying a fixed tax. as in AUStlis and HuBgary, for his privilege, with the obligation of an official inspection of his book at the request of the committee or their delegate. The struggle is still in an acute stage between the fiscal authorities in Hungary and the Jockev Club respecting the Increase of the tax to be levied on the receipts of the betting machine.
