AFFECTS BREEDING OF TROTTERS TOO The Empire State known for nearly threequarters of a century as the home of the amertcan Irottlng bred horse is not only losirigthat distinction rapidly but Is being abandoned by breeders who have made the state famous and who have invested millions of enterpriseThe dollars in the enterprise The crusade against horse racing sport has forced during the short space of two years the complete cesation of breeding horses in some counties and driving the breeders either entirely out of the busi ¬ ness or compelling them to move their stock to other states where they find the needed encourage ¬ ment The closing of more than one hundred trot ¬ ting tracks of the state where racing flourished and the horses raised at home were tried has made the enterprise a losing venture while on the other hand wideopen racing and patronage of the sport without jail sentences threatening its backers offer unlimited inducement to move to other states Many horse breeding farms where operations were carried on upon a small but select scale have already gone out of business and some of the best have followed suit operationsOthers or greatly curtailed their operations Others like Hill and Dale at Mamaroncck and the Empire Stnd at Cuba N Y haee already divided their breeding stock between the home farms and Kentucky with strong chances of finally locating all their operations In the Blue Grass country What the ultimate effect of the present movement will be is not hard to foretell especially under the present conditions which show an unparalleled demand for horses and equally great scarcity all over the state Horsebreeding a snort time since one of the great ¬ est farm industries of the state is destined to be ¬ come a dead issue New York Telegraph
