LOCATING STALLIONS IN SOUTH CAROLINA Charleston S C April 2 Announcement is made bv officials of the Charleston Fair and Racing Asso ¬ ciation that a number of good thoroughbred stallions will be donated to towns and communities in this state for breeding purposes Rockcastle by Dick Welles Hetty Green has been secured by the city of Georgetown through the efforts of Mayor W H Andrews It is stated that a number of other towns have made applications and that donations will be announced at an early date dateCoincident Coincident with the declaration by authorities at Washington that the discouragement of thorough ¬ bred racing in the United States has proved a serious menace to the stability of the cavalry re ¬ mounts of the United States army the announce ¬ ment comes that several counties in South Carolina arc to be the beneficiaries of the Charleston Fair and Racing Association so that in this state at least a strain of horses may be perpetuated which will save In its measure the horseusing portion of the population from this menace When Gen Leon ¬ ard Wood recently stirred the country with his warning against the decline of thoroughbred speed contests attention was drawn to the effect anti racing laws had wrought on the stability of the breed of good horseflesh in the United States Meas ¬ ures to counteract what General Wood warned against were proposed in various states statesGeneral General Manager Pons announced also that he had decided to grant similar applications from the citi ¬ zens of Manning and of Bishopville Acquisitions of good horses on their part can only be brought about through the contesting of the breeders purses at tracks such as the Palmetto course and through the liberality of racing associations which like uiarlestons can afford through their connection with the owners and breeders of highclass horses to acquire and distribute pureblooded animals of the IJ IJst st type General Manager Pons President an 1 tll r associates believe that such ex ¬ non We IUa1 ° and conduclve to tuc nub ile welfare05 ° m mr r uoc wlicb soon will be placed at the dis ¬ position of South Carolina communities desiring ara ° Jd Roy fay Planudis Old Lady Ralclch nn i l by Ornament Claret and several others the names of which will soon be announced
