Purchasedfrom from S C Hildreth Favorites in Eclipse Norfolk Vi April 9 The colors of William Garth the well known Virginian turfman wore con ¬ spicuous at tin Norfolk course this afternoon High Hat carried them to victory in the hurdle race over the grass course while Joe Madden tool the one mile dash that was provided as a feature J JH H Madden was nnsexed last fall following his innchase from S C Hildreth by Mr Garth He was making his maiden effort in Garths colors t may anil he raced In a creditable manner lie was ridden by Schtittinger who will do most of Mr Garths Hat riding this season and made his opito sition look cheap winning with plenty to spare by a length and a half from Aspirin For some unex ¬ plained reason the layers did not figure Joe Madden as having much chance and this enabled his backers to obiain as good as 25 to 1 for some o their com ¬ missions Joe Madden won like a good horse and so lmg as In retains his present form he certainly will be hard to lieat in
