Success Norfolk Va April 15 P S P Randolphs fast sprinter Besom made his first start of the season in the sixfurlongs allowance race at the local track this afternoon The race was the feature of the program and Besom was asked to meet some of tni lxst horses in training here His recent work earnm him a strong following and when It came to the run ¬ ning he showed a high flight of speed and led ttvi others from the rise of the barrier to the finish where he had a threelengths margin over HotTnian The pace was fast throughout the first half being run in 47 and the threequarters in 113 So long as he retains his present form Besom will be a hard horse to beat at sprinting distances The re ¬ sult was never in doubt in todays race and at the finish McCahey had him well in hand handHarry Harry Payne Whitneys Church Bell a filly that was touted by the dockers as being alwe the ordinary again proved a disappointment this after ¬ noon She was in with an ordinary lot in the opening dash at half a mile and her trainer elected to try licr with blinkers The change in equipment did not help matters and Church Bell was not among the first three at the finish During the running she was jumped on and cut on the oft foreleg The winner turned up in Ringling which beat his oppo ¬ sition lengthsJeannette ny half a dozen lengths Jeannette B made it two straight by winning the second race Like Ringliug and Besom she made a runaway affair of the race and at the finish had a fivelengths margin The filly which won her maiden race a few days ago appears to be a prom ¬ ising racer She is an extremely goodlooking filly and goingIt has a rapid way of going It was a tight lit between Frank Ruhstaller and Toniata in the third race with the result in doubt until the official placing was displayed The back ¬ ers of botli horses thought that they had won and it was only in the final stride that Frank Ruhstaller poked his nose in front frontJ J W Young who came here from Juarez to pur ¬ chase some horses closed a deal this morning for the twoyearolds Trojan Belle and Floral Park which he secured from Harry Payne Whitney Tho pair will be shipped by express to the Coeur dAIene track
