PROMISING PROSPECTS AT PIMLICO Plenty of Good Horses Available for Meeting Open ing Today Steeplechasers Especially Strong Baltimore Md April 20 The spring meeting of the Maryland Jockey Club will open tomorrow un ¬ der conditions that augur well for its success It will be the first meeting to be held under the super ¬ vision of the Baltimore County Racing Commission recently AnnapolisThe provided for by legislation at Annapolis The stalls at the track and its vicinity are filled with horses of good class the track is at its best and local patrons of the sport are awaiting the apening with unconcealed eagerness The meeting is scheduled to continue for sixteen days closing jn May 15 and will be followed by a tendays meeting at Electric Park the spring meeting of the Maryland United Hunts at Pimlico and a ten Jays meeting at Marlboro MarlboroThe The steeplechase contingent is especially strong here and there probably will be some brilliant rac ing through the field Taking advantage of the ood going yesterday morning a number of train ¬ ers sent their jumpers over the schooling course at Iiuilico Anthony Allen sent out his big stable in bunches of four with the veteran Algie at their head as schoolmaster The old fellow looks a bit on the big side yet but in a couple of weeks lie should be in condition to give an argument to the I est of them Coligny was another oldtimer to show the way over to a batch of novices and the onetime winner of the Champion Steeplechase can ftill clear a fence in a style to tickle the railblrds All the jumpers in charge of J Howard Lewis look the picture of health and it goes without saying they performersDick are likely to be useful performers Dick Pending sent Aronoe through the field in com ¬ pany with Mrs A M N Singers Enniskillcn and both did all that was asked of them Aronoe needs a bit of shaking up at his jumps and may do when the field is not too select Trainer Rites has Ennis killen in pretty fair condition considering his hard campaign last season and like all of the horses bred by tho late Colonel Nclville this one is an ex celfcnt jumperWilliam jumper William Garth has about twenty jumpers in his care with The Welkin and TirkctofLeavc as the bright particular stars Tlie Sage of Albermarle bad several lots out for a little spin the fouryear old Ringmaster showing all the earmarks of a prom ¬ ising lepper The Tompkins steeplechasers were given track work with the veteran Jimmy Lane at their head The Prophet in this stable is a well setup chest ¬ nut nutOld Old Hcrculoid seems to have recovered from the ailment that laid him en the shelf the early part Of last fall and Tim Donohue tiiinks there arc several more races under the veterans belt beltThe The Ivan Fox horses headed by Duffield were sent slowly around the main track Alfred Noble win ¬ ner of the Green Spring Valley Steeplechase last fall is the best in this stable and was considered good enough for a trip to France which his owner contemplated during the past winter winterTlie Tlie event of the day was the arrival of three car ¬ loads of racers from New York including the strings of August Bclmont and A J Goldsborough In the Goldsborough lot arc Apache and Dullcare belong ¬ ing to the Fleischmann brothers which will take part in faces for gentlemen riders Last year and for several seasons past the Fleischmann racers were trained by John Hyland who is now handling a big stable OppcnheiraBesides in Germany for Baron Oppcnheira Besides Prisclllian and Watervale the Bclmont lot includes the twoyearolds Rock View Dandy Rock Farrier and Mahubah that are entered for the Pimlico Nursery In all nineteen thoroughbreds represent the popular maroon and red colors of tbu chairman of the Jockey Club ClubJ J E Lane has claimed the name Bontello for the Norwood Lady Goda twoyearold colt entered for the Clabaugh Memorial and Pimlico Nursery Stakes By actual count there are about 075 thorough ¬ breds stabled in or near Pimlico and of these at least 100 are steeplechasers which will insure inter ¬ esting sport through the field fieldAmong Among the best looking horses on the ground are the Oak Ridge representatives of Thomas F Ryan the twoyearolds especially showing quality Last year was the first season on the turf of this stable and It had a capital filly in Wondawhy a winner in Kentucky and elsewhere Daingerfieid and Belle Nelson also showed promise and in young William Carter it has a capable and painstaking trainer
