KENTUCKYS AUTUMN RACING CAMPAIGN After an interregnum tiresome to loyal patrons of racing the time is approaching when the sport will again be in active progress over the Kentucky tracks Preparatory and holding out cheerful prom ¬ ise of the best order of racing are the stake races offered in behalf of Douglas Park Churchill Downs and Latonia which will all close for entries at mid ¬ night of Thursday August 1 Some of these events re destined to excite profound public interest espe ¬ cially the second running of the Kentucky Endur ¬ ance Stakes at four miles Last year the then threeyearold Messenger Boy won this race from Nadzu Royal Report and Aylmer and in doing so covered four miles in 714 the fastest four miles of record In a race It is said that Messenger Boy will be especially prepared to essay the difficult feat of winning it again but he will bo surely fur ¬ nished higher class opposition than that which con ¬ fronted him in 1911 The value of the race has been greatly increased and it is already reported that such high class horses as The Manager and Countless will be among its nominations and con lenders this year Given a halfdozen starters of such repute the race will be sure to attract an at ¬ tendance that will tax the accommodations of Churchill Downs It will be run Monday October 7 a date that is usually coincident with the most de ¬ lightful weather of the year Its weight scale has been altered in favor of the older horses This year threnyenrolds will l e required to carry 108 pounds to 122 on fouryearolds and over Last year Mes ¬ senger Boy carried 106 to 124 on Nadzu The change is not a great one in pounds but is really important in thatiivcry pound counts greatly in a contest over such a long distance of ground Publication of tho entries will be awaited with unusual interest interestKentucky Kentucky fall racing will begin at Lexington Sat ¬ urday August 31 and continue there through thir ¬ teen racing days No stakes to close have as yet been announced nor has any statement of the Iu tontlons of the officials of the Kentucky Associa ¬ tion In that regard been made But Lexington rac iug Is always good and a satisfactory program Is to bo depended upon The Lexington meeting will be followed by one of eighteen days at Douglas Park Louisville No racing over this track has taken place since 1908 spd its revival there may prove an agreeable change Six slake races of good values have been provided with nothing Sensational attempted The Douglas Park Inaugural Handicap at a mile and a sixteenth with 2000 added is the leader in point of value All of the others have 1500 added and will be well worth winning in the minds of all owners The New Louisville Jockey Clubs meeting covers nine days of racing making twentyseven days in all for Louisville Besides the Kentucky Endurance Stakes three other closed events each with 1000 added will be raced for in the course of the meet ¬ ing ingThe The Kentucky racing season of 1912 will come to an end with a meeting of nineteen days at Ln tonia beginning October 19 and terminating No ¬ vember 9 Six good stake races have been an ¬ nounced of which the principal is the Latonia Cup a handicap at the oldfashioued cup distance of two miles and a quarter with 2500 added Here is a race that should vie with the Kentucky Endurance Stakes in public interest and It probably will be con ¬ tested by the best the west can produce in the line of stayers It will be the feature of tho last day of the meeting and appropriately bring to an end the most prosperous year falling to the lot of the La ¬ tonia Jockey Club in many years of ups and downs
