ARMY RACES FOR JUAREZ AMERICAN OFFICERS WILL MEET MEXICANS IN INTERESTING SERIES OF CONTESTS First Event of the Kind to Take Place on Sunday SundayNext Next Favorites All Beaten Yesterday Two Purses for I Striker El Paso Tex December 10 A series of races Is being arranged fop between tbe officers of the American army and the officers of the Mexican federal forces The first of these races will take place next Sunday the distance to be covered being live furlongs The conditions call for horses to be ridden by their owners The handicapping will be done by Captains Ilaunigau and Mitchell of the 22nd Infantry U S A It is the intention of the officers to hold a series of races on the Hat and over hurdles and other obstacles General Manager Winn is heartily cooperating with the officers and will donate silver cups as prizes Through the courtesy of Gen U 2 Steever of the American forces Geii Ttncey Anbert of the Mexican army and Col Fredericks of the 22nd regiment the famous band of the regiment named will cross the border and play during the afternoon These events will attract as notable a gathering of El Paso anil Juarez society folk as seen on the opening day The officers are exerting themselves to secure mounts and some will send as far east as Baltimore for their horses horsesNot Not a single favorite scored today Ike Striker won two races with Rose Oneil and Swiftsure both of which were at liberal odds oddsWilliam William Beveriey drew a stand in the ring today while four layers dropped out They were Sam Franks Johnny Lewis Al Koenigsberg and the Hughes brothers All claim to have lost heavily iu the past few days daysJockeys Jockeys A Murray and W W Taylor were sns peniled for live days for disobedience at the post
