REFUSES TO SELL HAWTHORN C F Buschemcycr Rejects an Offer of 20000 and Share of Kentucky Derby Stakes Louisville Ky April 10 Phil T Cliinn of liar rodsburg is here from New York and has prcsentd to C F Burcheincyer a proposition for the purchase of HawtlKjrn the favorite for the Kentucky Derby Acting for an eastern gentleman Mr Chinu offered for the great sou of Hastings 20000 ami half of the value of the Derby Stakes This offer interested Mr Buschemoyer only so far as it indicated an anxiety on the part of the eastern man to buy his gelding He told Mr Chinn that Hawthorn is nut for sale just as he has told others It looks as if lie holds this racer priceless When Mr Chinn was in New York he heard a great deal of talk alnmt the Derby and the Kentucky racing season He says that II K Knapp is certain to scud Yankee No ¬ tions here to start in the Derby and he will be ridden by jockey Glass GlassJohn John Hachmelster manager of the Douglas Park and Latonia Jockey Clubs while in Cincinnati was gratified to hear of the continuous and growing in ¬ terest in the meetings at bis Louisville and Latonla courses The 10000 Kentucky Iliindlcap which is to be decided on May 20 the opening day at Douglas Piirk will be second to no turf event to be run this spring in Kentucky It will bring to ¬ gether among others the best of the contenders for the Kentucky Derby to be run May 10 at Churchill Downs and later these same racers will be seen under colors in the Latonia Derby The Kentucky Handicap will attract not only all of the cracks of the threeyearold division but the best of the older hordes that will nice in Kentucky as well
