PREPARING FOR MONTREAL RACING Montreal Qne April 10 Although there is over a mouth before the time for the closing of the stakes to be run during the spring meeting of tho Montreal Jockey Club the blanks have been sent out and have met with general approval This spring will see a general increase in feature races over tlie Canadian circuit and the Montreal club like the others have seen lit to increase the value of three of its live stakes Four of these events will be run on the flat while the other is the Prince of Wales Steeplechase which has always attracted the liest class of junipers Already a number of horses are being given their early road work around Blue Bonnets They win ¬ tered at the course and all look well The two yearolds of this sprlng will show improvement as compared with previous seasons not only in number but in quality There were more yearlings sent iuti winter quarters last fall than perhaps ever before in the history of racing in Montreal These have all developed well wellThe The conditions of the Kings Plate races both in the provinces of Ontario and Quebec will on courage the racing of youngsters Tin1 events for Canadianowned horses should bring forlh good en ¬ tries this spring One of the live slakes to be run at Bine Bonnets the Connaught Cup is fashioned for Canadianowned horses and as there are many likely ones now in Canada the contest should lie a good one with a large field The majority of the locallyowned horses will start their campaign for 1913 during the meeting at Toronto which marks the opening of the Cana ¬ dian racing each year This will tit them for the meeting at Blue Bonnets There is less frost in the ground this season than for some years so that the track will be in condition at a much earlier date than usual
