FLABBERGAST RACES WEIL SON OF MARTINET SHOWS IMPROVEMENT OVER HIS TWOYEAROLD FORM Boats John Furlong and Other Good Ones in Monti cello Hotel Handicap Mud Runners Get Another Chance at Norfolk Norfolk Vn April i Todays program at the Jamestown Jockey Clubs course was ruined by dis ¬ agreeable weather and track conditions A heavy rain that set in last night continued on and off all afternoon The going was muddy during the lirst few races and grew heavier as the racing pro ¬ gressed It was an ideal day for the mud runners and horses which fancied that sort of going were prominent in all seven of the finishes The manage ¬ ment had provided an excellent program and with favorable conditions some good sport would have bren witnessed Even as it was a majority of the races furnished interesting contests and three of the finishes found the winners under hard drives to win by small margins marginsThe The feature nice the Monticello Hotel Handicap a dash of one mile and a sixteenth value 1500 proved rather easy for Flabbergast which led from start to linish and eventually won by a couple of lengths John Furlong the top weight was run ¬ ning over a track he does not fancy yet showed a splendid performance in finishing second while the small end of the purse went to Friink K Browns Volthorpe In his previous effort when heavily supported Flabbergast was crowded against the inner rail in rounding the lirst turn and fell His effort this afternoon demonstrated that he probably would have made good but for the accident accidentSonny Sonny Hoy came back this afternoon and showed Hint he is a good mud runner by beating some fail youngsters ill the opener a dash of four and a half furlongs in which he came from behind and won easily by a length and a half halfHugh Hugh MeCarren put over one of his occasional good things when Willis landed the third race Willis showed good speed in the going but tired badlv and just lasted long enough to stand off Queen Bees bid Bobbins lost his stirrups or he might have won with Queen Bee Bee1Vmt 1Vmt Khti ilyujayejl with his opposition In tho fifth nice eoniing frouTTHiblndiu the stretch and easily disposing of the leaders leadersT T Stnbendorf purchased the twoyearold Fathom from the Bclmout stable this morning He paid 22OO for the colt Fathom has been turned over to N K Heal to twin twinJockeys Jockeys Butwell and Musgrave departed for Havre le Grace tonight Several owners shipped their horses to the Maryland track this morning among them William Garth J W Hedrick and James Fitzsimmons
