KENTUCKY SEASON TO OPEN SATURDAY Sport of Rarer Quality in Prospect for Lexington Than in Many a Year YearLexington Lexington Ivy April 10 The spring period of fHchig in Kentucky a total of sixty days eleven days here thirteen at Churchill Downs twelve at Douglas Park and twentyfour at Latonia is to lie inaugurated at the historic Kentucky Association course in the suburbs of this city next Saturday It may sound somewhat stercotvKd to say that the best racing In the long and honorable record of the Lexington track is in prospect but it is neverthe ¬ less a fact that has the attestation of a number of veliran turfmen including Messrs Gus Eastin Gjeen B Morris John Todd John Itodegap and S K Hughes There aiv 57t stalls exclusive of feed moms In the stables within the track inclosure and there is a horse ready to race in every one of them even Superintendent Boss jioiiy has been re ¬ moved to make room for a running horse or will be in them by the time the call to post is sounded next Saturday Outside the inclosure7 in private stables there are probably fifty other horses that are ready to run On runOn tho whole the horses in Kentucky this year are more forward in preparation than they have been in a number of years The open winter per ¬ mitted their reaching a state of perfection by easy gradual stages None of them has had to l e hur ¬ ried as Is sometimes the case when the winters are long and cold As this is written the sun is shining brightly and it is really warm enough out of doors to go in shirt sleeves There is hardly any probability that there will be a recurrence of the wet and chilly days that were numerous for a fort ¬ night just passed so it is reasonable to presume that there will be little chance of the horses going stale or being otherwise set back for want of regu ¬ larity in their training from now hence henceIn In the division four years old and upward there are few really good horses that is horses of stake quality to be raced iu the state this spring but among the threeyearolds there are several stars and the twoyearold division appears to be par ¬ ticularly strong in quality It lias been said by gootl judges that there are In Kentucky this year more good youngsters than have been seen in the state in a decade and the best of them are to be seen in action right here It is going to take a rrackerjack to win the Breeders Futurity this year and while a numlnr of trainers are claiming to have Ml winner In their barns none of them seems will ¬ ing to wager thus far in advance of the running of that coveted stake which will be on the meeting closing day Thursday May t that his charge will win it It is really the most open race that this association has programmed in many many years For Instance there are eightyone eligibles and among them are Jack Bakers fast colt John Guild GuildE E H Hnulleys Buzz Around Bradleys Choice Brave Cunard Brigs Brother and Bayberry Candle all fast ones J N Camdens three including Ini perator and Bermuilian Clay Brothers Breakers E W Heffners Punch Bowl II Price Headleys Orna ¬ ment Tweedledum lilly F It Hitchcocks Dakota DakotaF F J Kellevs Bolter II K Knapps Kehtoh T C McDowells live including Aristocrat halfbrother to The Manager winner of the Breeders Futurity of 1911 and the fast Hastings Monarka colt John I Maddens four including Addle M J W Mays Billy Stuart J C Mllams Maud B L P J Millets Erin John Morris March J F Newmans Dick Dodlo which a number of those from Juarez say is a much better colt than he has ever shown to be George B Otts The Sander and The Penman Dr James T Shannons Lost Fortune Harry Stan Impos Baltimore and Archie Ximmers Preston Lynn LynnSome Some Idea of the quality of the threeyearolds that will race here can be had from the eligibles for the Bine Grass Stakes which will be run on Saturday May 3 as a preliminary to the Kentucky Derby to be decided at Churchill Downs ono week later and the Ashland Oaks which will be decided on Tuesday April 29 The Blue Grass Stakes can idates arc Hawthorn IILlios Foundation Brooktield Ballyshe Donerail Yankee Notions Lord Marshall Prince Hermls Goweil Christmas Star Clinton Merlin Nash Cash Kinmundy El Palomar The Cinder and Chilton King The Ashland Oaks elig ¬ ibles include Ballyshe Goweil Christmas Star The Widow Moon Carpathia Anna Patricia Klva Daisy Platt Semprite Silk Day Old Woman Katrine Lodona La Mode Berna Culla Benanet Volita and Floral Park ParkJust Just to supply a hint as to what the trainers here ¬ abouts are thinking of Lexington trained horses what Green B Morris said to W S Trevey at the track Thursday afternoon is related Trevey was telling Morris that he would be here Tuesday next with Hawthorn and that he was expecting to take the Blue Grass Stakes with him in virtually a walk ¬ over You are expecting a walkover ha ha laughed the oldtimer as lie laid his hand good naturedly somewhat benevolently upon Treveys knee Son let me give you a piece of advice Have your horse mighty well greased when you bring him here because they are going to run him son they are sure going to run him
