WEATHER MARS OPENING COEUR DALENE MEETING BEGINS UNDER UNFAVORABLE CLIMATIC CONDITIONS Big Crowd Journeys to Idaho Course in Spit o of Heavy Downpour of Rain Mutuel System of ofBetting Betting Makes a Hit Coeur dAlene Idaho April 19 Unfavorable weather conditions marred the opening of the third annual meeting of the Coeur dAlene Fair and Rac ¬ ing Association at Alan today It rained heavily throughout the day but despite that handicap fully thirtylive hundred persons visited the track and were rewarded by witnessing races of an interest ¬ ing nature natureTin Tin stellar attraction of the afternoon was the opening handicap at threequarters of a mile iu which Iarlor Boy was the victor He beat Lady Panchita in a drive that lasted through the final sixteenth of the race Lady Ianchita shouldered her weight in game fashion and only faltered in the last stride Seneca flattered his backers for a time but finally quit Entield apparently could not keep ui In the first part of the race but finished well Sea Cliff ran disapx intingly never getting near the front at any time timeThe The other races were well contested considering the condition of the track trackThe The parimutuel system found immediate tavor with the racegoers and considering that it was entirely new in this part of the country the volume satisfactoryMany of play was quite satisfactory Many followers of the sport from distant points were in attendance Among the visitors were Hugh E Springer vicepresident of the British Columbia Thoroughbred Association of Vancouver former Mayor 1 F Bransford of Salt Lake E G Soule of San Francisco and many others well known
