SUCCESSFUL ENGLISH SIRE DIES IIKIIIK i m ir ge of 23 years the wellknown stallion Wolfs Crag died suddenly re ¬ cently at K Sherwoods stud at Newmarket He showed some good form as a juvenile and was one of the few threeyearolds to win the Lincolnshire Handicap After that race however In 1893 ho failed to stand training and was retired to the stud He proved a valuable sire and though ho never got anything quite in the first class many of his progeny proved highly successful In all they won 270 races of the total value of 354038 On the death of the late Mr Wingrove Smith Wolfs Crag was sold at tho Newmarket Second July meeting last year for 55 guineas and at the sales in December he was knocked down to I Sher ¬ wood for 100 guineas so that he has not long had the benefit of his services
