SOCIAL ARRANGEMENTS AT SARATOGA New York July 22 Irouiinerit sportsmen inter ¬ ested in making the Saratoga Association meeting a social as well as a sporting success organized the Saratoga reading rooms as a meeting place for those interested in the sport It is announced that the reading rooms will reopen ou August 1 the day before the meeting at the Spa begins beginsAt At the reading looms everything in the nature of club privileges will be provided for those who are in good standing and the meeting of trainers owners and spectators to run the races over again in the evening Is expected to increase good fellow ¬ ship and aid in keeping the racing enthusiasts solidly together for the good of the sport sportThough Though the activities of the reading room will not actually extend further than tho Grand Union Hotel ou the ground floor of which the club rooms are situated membership in the reading rooms will entitle a member to become a subscriber to the Saratoga Association and a member of the Saratoga Golf and Tennis Club without further introduction The directors of the reading room are August Bel ¬ mont Robert Ma clay Bull John G Iollanshee F H Hitchcock Thomas Hitchcock Foxhall P Keene H K Knupp Andrew Miller Schuyler L Parsons John San ford Ilarrv Payne Whitney and Itichard T Wilson WilsonTurfmen Turfmen who go to the Spa from the metropolitan track will by no means have a clear field in gather ¬ ing the purses Already many western owners are beginning to ship their horses east to capture some of the rich events which are not only more valuable than the ones raced for here but occur with greater frequency as the racing will be hold on evcrv weekday throughout the month Among those en ¬ tered for the twoyearold events is Old Hosehud which lias gained a great reputation in the west It is by no moans likely that the westonier will make away with the stakes unopposed for though nothing of much class has been seen in the racing for youngsters at Belmont Park thorn aro several promising young ones in the stables of August Bel ¬ mont II P Whitney and others which have not yet been seen under colors
