BUD RENAUD DIES AT NEW ORLEANS New Orleans La August IS H A BiuU Benaud aged CO formerly connected with the Fair Grounds race track and well known in sporting circles for many years died here Saturday of cir ¬ rhosis of tho liver The body was transferred yes ¬ terday to Mobile where the Elks conducted the funeral funeralMr Mr Renaud came to New Orleans in 1880 from Greenville Miss and In 1S92 became associated with C S Bush George C Bennett Richard Taylor J B Harrison and a number of other oldtime sports ¬ men in leasing the Fair Grounds and organizing the Crescent City Jockey Club ClubThe The deceased owned oneeighth Interest In the Crescent City Jockey Club and at one time told his Intimates that he could write his check for 200000 200000Mr Mr Benaud was the originator of Ladles Day at the old Fair Grounds track which became famous in the south It was a common occurrence to find Mr Benaud at the gate welcoming 5000 or 5000 ladles giving each a handsome satlu program During programDuring his connection with racing Mr Renaud obtained the stallion Kmln Bey in the lato nineties and established a breeding farm on tho Gulf and Ship GnlfportKin Island Uailroad near Gnlfport Kin I n Bey sired a number of fair horses among which were L S Berg raced here by Captain Capoo of the police force Hannibal Bey and others othersThe The breeding farm idea was abandoned bv Mr Beuaud when reverses struck him in 1907 and the horses were sold off and presented to friends In 1907 and 1908 Mr Benaud according to his most In ¬ timate friends was frozen out of tho Crescent Cltv Jockey Club Domestic troubles marked the closing1 years of his life and he died a poor man
