LONG SHOT TAKES PUESE SONG OF VALLEY, CO TO 1. BEATS HAPENNY. 1 TO 2, AT LAUREL. Stable Trained by Guy Gray Suspended for Inconsistent Racing N. K. Beal Loses El Oro by Bidding Up Process. Baltimore, Mil.. October 23. Excepting for the victories of Surprising and El Oro, this was a day of surprises at Laurel and the bidding up of old El Oro and his sale to Guy Gray, trainer of the second horse. Ka to K., was somewhat of a sensation. Guy Gray advanced El Oro from .,500 to ?2,Sl!0 and at the latter llgure Nat Ileal left his old favorite go. Heal has had EI Oro since the horse was a two-year-old. J. E. Seagram bought El Oro :is a .yearling and he was highly tried, but one day El Oro fell and broke his nose, whereupon Mr. Seagram gave llie horse to Dr. .1. W. Graves, a veterinarian of Hamilton, who turned the horse over to I5t.nl. Later on Ileal bought Dr. Graves interest. The late R. S. Garrett of Baltimore then purchased a half interest in El Oro and, upon his death. Ileal acquired the Garrett interest. In Beals colors El Oro has won many races and naturally he was sorry to lose his breadwinner. After the race, the stewards issued :i ruling that owing to the inconsistent running of the horses owned by W. A. Head and trained by Gray, their further entries should be refused. The real sensation of the day was the winning ot Song of the Valley at CU to 1. Song of the Valley defeated August Belmonts Ilalenny. a strong favorite. It was only In the last hundred yards that Hapenny hung out signals of distress and then the long shot came along and took the purse. The victory of Surprising was easily achieved and demonstrated that the Carman colt ranks in the best flight of the two-year-olds. The weather was pleasanter for racing than It has been In a week and the result was a big attendance.
