NOTES OF THE TURF IN OTHER LANDS. The good filly Tylt, which held an engagement in the Cesarewitch, has been -turned out of training aud sent toJLord Derbys stud.,., . The well-known turfman, Ernest Tanner, has consented to stand as Liberal candidate for parliament for the Newmarket division of Cambridgeshire, in opposition to Mr. Denison-Pender. The stallion Lochryan. which stands at Mr. II. M. Ilartigans stud farm iu Ireland, holds what must be nearly a record, as all but one of his numerous progeny have proved winners, either on the flat or Over a country. The solitary exception is a youuarster which so far has only been seen in public on two occasions. Cantilever is the .first big winner Lord Harewood has owned since Minstead won him the Middle Park Plate. Curiously enough. Cantilever is a half brother to Minstead. Ills trainer. College Leader, a fair jockey in his day. Is one of the youngest in his profession and the Jockey Club Stakes is his first important triumph. It is now spring in Australia and Important spring racing is in progress. Thus at Randwlck October 4 the 5,000 Australian Jockey Club Derby was run and was won by J. E. OBriens colt Beragoon. with I. Earnshaws colt Radnor second aud A. G. Whites colt Ovas Isle third. Seven ran and Beragoon won by a neck. He was at 0 to 4 in the betting and ran the mile and a half of the race in 2:35 with 120 pounds up. When the James R. Keene horses in training in England were sold at auction last year Kennedy Jones gave 4,000 for the speedy colt Castleton, but his stable was much haressed by sickness this year, of which Castleton was one of the victims. It was not until at the Kempton Iark meeting October 10 that he returned any part of his purchase money. Here in quite his three-year-old style he won the ,500 Richmond Plate at three-quarters of a mile and simply ran away from Diadumenos, Borrow, Prester Jack, Sir Martin and eight other extremely fast horses. It was Mr. Jones first important success in racing. Because of extremely heavy going The Tetrarch was not started iu the 5,000 Imperial Produce Plate at Kempton Park, which was won by Captain Foresters excellent colt By George. The Tetrarch lias been sent Into retirement until next years acing comes on, with the reputation of being the best two-year-old seen in England since the days of it. Simon and Ormonde. Like those two celebrities se is an unbeaten horse and has already been heavily .lacked to win next years Derby at such absurdly short prices as 3 to 1 and 2 14 to 1. If all goes well with him it is expected that his next appearance in public will be when the Two Thousand Guineas candidates line up at the post at Newmarket next spring. Dalmatian cost Louis Winans a large sum of money, very little of which he has returned. When a two and three-year-old in this country he was a free and generous runner, but directly after he was transferred to England he developed into a sulker of the most pronounced type. There it has always been recognized that he was a good horse that could run fast, and far if he would, but he simply, consistently, refused to try. Quite recently he became more tractable and at the Windsor meeting, October 9, ran an excellent race and easily won the Windsor October Handicap at a mile and live-eighths and 150 yards, defeating eleven recognized good handicap horses, one of which, Lavaine, was subsequently placed In the Cesarewitch.
