NOTES OF THE TURF. Jockey Nathans apprenticeship has expired. John C. Ferris has secured from George J. Ixjug the horses raised at Bashford Manor Farm that he will race at Juarez the coming winter, in conjunction with the stable he shipped there recently from Vancouver. The horses he secured out of the Long barn are the three-year-olds Miletus, Madello and Thaka and three yearlings, one a bay colt by Sir Iluon Onadier. another a chestnut colt by Sir Huon Globina, and the other a chestnut filly by Sir Huou Belle Scott. Trainer Richard Carter, Jr., who had a log broken October 21, when a pony he was riding fell, died last Tuesday after a surgical operation for the resetting of the fractured bone. As was his father before him and several brothers us well, Carter was a public trainer and a much respected man in and out of his profession. He had trained the French division of August Belmonts stable for several years past, but bad other patrons. Princess Duleep-Singh and Due L. Decazes being among the other patrons of his stable at Chautilly, near Paris.
