PALMETTO PARK PRACTICALLY READY. Finishing Touches Now Being Given to Improvements Arrivals of Racing Folk Continue Apace. Charleston, S. C, November 20. The finishing touches are well under way at Palmetto Park and the plant will be in thorough readiness before the week is over. L. A. Cassidy, who has had supervision of the work, has obtained excellent results from the big force of workmen that were on the job and when the opening conies former visitors to the track will be greatly pleased witli the numerous improvements. Arrivals of horses were again numerous. They were all from the cast and included some well-known racers. W. P. Burch. who will serve as one of the stewards during the meeting, reached here this morning from Washington, 1. C. 15. C. Smith, who will be the steward representing the Jockey Club, will arrive tomorrow. C. C. Campau, who will have charge of the gates during the meeting, arrived today from Detroit. Jockey Buxton, who will ride this winter for J. L. Holland, Is at present negotiating with Sam Hildrcth to ride for August Belmont next season. M. L. Hayman and R. F. Carman Were arrivals today from New York. The horses owned by L. Weissj and brought here from Kentucky by AI Luzader have been turned over to "Slim" Moore, who will have charge of their futnre training. Jockey W. Obert arrived today from Norfolk, Va. Jockey J. Glass, who will ride this winter for W. P. Burch, will have his engagements made by A. G. Blakeley. whose horses he will also ride. According to Secretary Nathansou. there will be at least a dozen starters in the Fort Sumter Inaugural Handicap, which will feature the opening day card. The race has a value of ,500.
