POTOMAC DIES AT HURRICANA. New York, November 26. Potomac, one of the noted thoroughbred stallions at John Sanfords Hur-ricana Stud at Amsterdam. N. Y, has just died at the age of -5 years. A son of St. Blaise and Susquehanna, he was one of the best of his day while racing, and though he did not attain any great measure of success in the stud he played an important part in racing history. Potomac was brought to the races by August Belmont and was winner of the Futurity of 1S0O. while his stable mate. Masher, was second. That same year he was winner of the Flatbush, in which he defeated Strathmeath and Sallie .McClelland. As a three-year-old Potomac raced in the colors of the late M. F. Dwyer and met with a full measure of success, the winning of the Lawrence Realization, in which he again defeated Strathmeath. being his best performance. He was also winner of the Spindrift, a sweepstakes at Brighton Beach and the Barnegat Stakes at Monmouth Park. The Baruegat was a mile and a half race and he handily took the measure of Reckon. During his four-year-old season lie won four races for Mr. Dwyer and at the close of that year he was purchased by General Stephen Sanford and retired to the stud at Hurrlcana Farm, where the sou of St. Blaise met with a fair share of success, though he did not send any particularly brilliant horses to the races. Mr. Sanford, following out a custom of his illustrious father, has ordered a shaft to be placed over the grave of the good stallion, and his lxmes rest beside those of Caughnawaga. .Molly Brandt and other favorites that have ended their days hi peac i on the farm. i
