CAST OFF BEATS PAN ZARETA VESTED RIGHTS SCORES FLUKY VICTORY IN HANDICAP AT JUAREZ. Winner of Race a Former Stablcmate of J. F. and H. S. Newmans Great Filly Gossip from Mexican Course. El Paso, Tex., December 2. Vested Rights, a , east-off of the J. F. and II. S. Newman stable, beat hts former owners crack sprinter, Pan Zareta, In the handicap at Juarez .this afternoon at the long odds of 20 to 1. Pan Zareta met with a mishap in entering the homestretch by being bumped br Orb. which hale jockey Crawford could not keep straight. Bearing over Into Pan Zareta, he knocked ier off her stride. With 121 pounds up she could not recover quickly enough to withstand the swift end rush of Vested Rights. Useeit suffered badly at the same time. Bookmaker John Fennessey arrived this morning. He contemplates cutting in with a book in the near future. Jockey L. Gentry was suspended for live days by the stewards for permitting his mount Uncle Jiin-me Grav, to bear over against Miss Sly about a hundrciV yards from the finish of the closing race. Jockey R. Crawford, who bumped into Pan Zareta, was suspended for five days. George Land, who trained and raced All Red, Royal Report and other horses of merit successfully a few years ago, is now at the Juarez track and ix helping Mose Goldblatt, trainer of J. Livingstons big string to handle the ten yearlings belonging to that big stable. The three-year-old Nobby, in K. Spences stable, and a .horse that has been a victim of misfortune ever since his good showing as a two-year-old, spread his foot badly in the second race on Thanksgiving Day and his trainer doubts . whether he will be able to go to the post again before the last part of the meeting. C. W. Crippen lias the making of the engagements for jockev R. Fecney, who can ride as light as 102 pounds and is entitled to an apprentice allowance. The boy came here with the stable of Tom Hatfield, who holds the contract on him. George M. Van Gordon, of Danville, Cal., has arrived with three yearlings and the jockey, J. Carroll, who will later- on endeavor to secure a-riding license. The stewards of the Jockey Club Juarez have caused to be posted the following notice to owners ami trainers: "Jockeys agents will not be allowed upon this course. Only a licensed trainer or owner in good standing will be permitted to make engagements for any jockey. Owners must be consistent in the use of whips, spurs and blinkers. No change In equipment wilt be allowed except by permission of tbe stewards. Friendly claims In selling races are a violation of the rules. Any horse claimed and subsequently found in the possession of the original owner within thirty days will, be considered prima-ftlcie evidence of a friendly claim aud the penalty applied." Close to fifty jockeys have, by the consent of the stewards of the Jockey Club Juarez, secured license to ride during the wiuter meeting now on here. The riders in good standing here include F.
