Oakland finished in the rear alter a brief display of speed. He started to retire at the half mile ground. Horel was questioned by the stewards after weighing in rcgaiMing the horses poor performance and lie attributed it to interference from which he suffered at the halt mile ground- Oakland was a joint favorite with The lurk, but lack of support caused his odds to recede. Oaklands showing in the race was below that of his former races here, but the consensus of opinion appears to be that Itorel tried wiih his mount and that he did suffer interference at the point lie claimed. On Tlic Turk s best form lie completely outclassed the starters in the race and the good price against him was due to the timidity of the public.
